SIAMS Inspection - January 2025

All Church of England and Methodist schools are inspected approximately every five years by a SIAMS inspector from the Church of England.

A SIAMS inspection is an opportunity to highlight the impact that the school’s Christian vision has on the flourishing of the whole school community.

I am beyond thrilled to share that The Archbishop’s School received the highest SIAMS Inspection judgement following our last inspection in January 2025.

Highlights from the report for me were:

  • “Through the vision, this highly diverse and inclusive school, offers a space for everyone to flourish, where all are known, valued, and supported”.
  • “School values of compassion, wisdom, hope, perseverance and forgiveness are truly lived out in the calm and considerate atmosphere”.
  • “The strong, creative curriculum at The Archbishop’s School is aspirational. This is a result of the vision and values that put students at the centre of their learning. The school's commitment to going above and beyond is evident in the student’s learning experience”.
  • We are immensely proud of what we have all achieved and look forward to continuing to provide an exceptional learning environment for our students.

Mr D. Elliott, Headteacher

Launch of ACE Rugby Academy

Students with International Players

Our official launch of the new ACE Rugby Academy took place on Wednesday 21 August at Canterbury Rugby Club.

We were honoured to be joined by two international Rugby players – John Gallagher, Former New Zealand international player, and Alex Lozowski, Saracens forward.

Four of our fantastic Sixth Form students spoke about their involvement in the new Rugby Academy, and how this new partnership opens new opportunities for many of our students, whatever their background.

As a player of the ACE Rugby Academy, we will balance your rugby training and fixtures alongside your academic studies at The Archbishop’s School.

This course will coincide with your other subject choices; a minimum of three A Level/BTEC Level 3/GCSE qualifications.

Open to females and males, players will train four times a week with professional England Rugby coaches and 1XV players from Canterbury Rugby Club.

Following the RFU elite player model, you will receive two hours of rugby every day, including technical coaching sessions and bespoke rugby development.

The training will take place both inside the school and at the home of Canterbury Rugby Club. Travel will be provided.

With weekly fixtures, coaching and matches, you will be supported by regular video analysis of performance development, plus strength and conditioning in our new purpose-built gym.

All players will have the opportunity to acquire an ERCA award in Rugby Coaching (equivalent to a Level 1 and Level 2 qualification) and the England Rugby Refereeing Award.

Excursions to Twickenham, home match access at Canterbury Rugby Club and a full academic programme provide a great incentive to join and be part of the Archbishop’s Canterbury Educational Rugby Academy.

A-Level Results 2024

A Levels

The Archbishop's School is very pleased with the A-Level results this year. The average grade for our students was a C with improvements in both A-Level and Applied General (BTEC and Diploma) results compared to 2022-23 with the average grade increasing by ½ a grade.  We achieved A*/A grades in over 40% of subjects and A*-C also over 40% on average.

In terms of the students, the highest achieving student obtained A*AA in Psychology, Biology and Criminology. Over 25% of the students achieved an A grade or equivalent in at least one subject, with 25% of the students obtaining at least two A grades or equivalents.

As regards to university destinations 72% achieved their first choice with 14% being successfully through the clearing process whilst a further 14% have places but are considering the university pathway before they commit.

Headteacher, Mr David Elliott, said,

“It is always good to see the school bucking the trend when nationally results are in decline but most importantly to see our students living out our vision, flourishing and reaching their full potential giving them the best possible platform for their future. We are immensely proud of our student’s great work and commitment.”
